Sewage Cleanup Expertise

Our team will perform all the steps to ensure our client is safe in the area. We eliminate microbial growth to keep our clients healthy.
We get a lot of calls from clients when they need our assistance with whatever it may be. Sometimes the calls are general cleaning, whereas others are not desirable.
Sewage Cleanup
When we get a class about the need to clean up a site affected by a sewage leak, we will be wearing PPE. We do this so that our employees get protection from harmful pathogens. We will place a job into one of these three categories:
- Category 1: “Clean Water”
This is when the water has come from a clean source. If left untreated, it can progress into a category 2 or 3. Some examples of category one would be a broken water line.
This water has a significant level of contamination which can cause discomfort or illness if it gets ingested. Examples of this would be a washing machine overflow, a toilet overflow with some urine but no feces, or a dishwasher overflow.
- Category 3: “Black Water”
This is very much an unsanitary source that can cause severe illness or death if it gets ingested, and we suggest not to put yourself in contact with this category of water. Some examples would be flooding from a body of water, water from beyond the toilet trap, a toilet bowl with feces, or standing water that has started to grow microbial growth.

The Different Types of Mold You'll Encounter
4/8/2024 (Permalink)
Mold prospers in warm, damp areas and it will continue to spread with a continuous water source. Call our professionals to help with mold remediation.
There are different types of mold. The most common are Aspergillus, cladosporium, and Stachybotrys Atra (also known as black mold). Aspergillus and Cladosporium are nontoxic to humans but they can aggravate allergy symptoms. It is important to note that not all mold is dangerous. In fact, it is all around us, but some mold should be removed by professionals. It is found in foods and in air conditioning systems. This is found as a black or green mold that grows in little dots in bathrooms, on painted surfaces, and in flexible air ducts. Black mold should be removed for safety reasons. Call our SERVPRO franchise professionals to remove molds such as black mold. This type of mold grows on building materials with a water source available. To prevent mold growth, make sure that water leaks are dried up quickly and humidity levels are maintained in your home or business. Mold thrives in warm, damp conditions. Our SERVPRO franchise professionals are certified to test for mold. We do visual inspections, air sampling, as well as we have a bore scope that can go inside areas that are not normally visible to look for mold. When air samples are taken, 3 samples are taken and sent in to be analyzed. The results take about 5 to 7 days to return. If the air samples come back positive for mold then we will do further investigation to locate the source of the positive result of the air samples. Call us for pricing if you believe you have mold present and we will help you maintain your healthy home and remediate mold.
Revived Construction Division has Big Plans for the Future

Jason is the Director of Construction at SERVPRO of Grinnell & Pella.
With over 30 years in the construction industry, Jason Davis is ready to level up SERVPRO® Team Meyer’s construction division in 2024. Davis took on the role of Director of Construction in October, and says he hopes to “bring a new beginning” to the division at SERVPRO.
Prior to his position at SERVPRO, Davis spent two decades in the carpenter's union working on both residential and commercial projects. There, he oversaw multi-million-dollar projects, including Iowa landmarks such as the Art Museum, Oak Noll Retirement Home, U of I Athletic Learning Center, The Pomerantz, parts of the Children's Hospital, and the Pappajohn addition to the University of Iowa Hospital. Davis also owned a business in which the company constructed homes and performed extensive remodels.
Because SERVPRO Team Meyer took a short pause on construction work, Davis looks forward to “raising the bar” in the coming year. The company now has a fully functioning division, led by Davis, that covers all 10 of Team Meyer’s locations. Davis says he has high hopes and big goals for the future.
“I want SERVPRO Team Meyer to become the top remodeling company in the industry,” he says.
Davis understands that construction work following damage restoration has its unique characteristics. Having construction integrated into the restoration company allows the franchise to be a one-stop shop for its customers.
“We’re able to help the customer as a whole because we can offer all service lines to help them complete a project,” he says. “This way, they're not having to search around for other companies...we are start to finish.”
Davis notes that the most enjoyable part about what he does is working with customers. He says he has always been in tune with his clients, and that he prioritizes customer satisfaction. When he completes a job, one of Davis’s favorite things to see is a customer’s face filled with joy and relief, knowing that they hired the right team for the job.
With this new position, one of Davis’s goals is to educate more people on the “why” and “how” of construction and get his team excited about it.
“Just like with any job, if you don't know about it or don't understand it, you won't believe in it,” he says. “So, you gotta get people believing in what you’re doing.”
Beyond Davis’s professional life, he says he finds fulfillment in family time with his five children and wife Michele, as well as golfing and hunting.
SERVPRO Team Meyer is so excited to welcome Jason to our team and to see our construction division thrive.

Fires Caused by Household Appliances

SERVPRO of Grinnell & Pella has the expertise to restore properties following a fire.
Although convenient, many household appliances can often malfunction and lead to home or apartment fires. Whether it be a washer and dryer, stove, dishwasher, refrigerator, or other cooking appliances, these items are used routinely and help our lives, but can also have detrimental effects if used carelessly, left unattended or malfunctioning. SERVPRO of Grinnell & Pella can be there to restore a commercial or residential property following fire and smoke damage and is always Here to help. To prevent a possible fire due to a household appliance and protect your property, here are three things you can do.
- Never leave heated cookware on overnight such as crockpots. Use of these appliances should be supervised in case of a heating element or wiring malfunction.
- Never leave an appliance running while away. Coming home to clean dishes from the dishwasher may sound nice after being away, but electrical issues may stem from heating elements which can cause fire.
- Do not overload your washer or dryer, and always make sure to clean out the lint trap.
